Episode 857 – How to Use a Hiring Funnel to Get You Out of Cleaning:Episode 857

Today on the podcast, we have Rachael Gleason of Fresh and Bright cleaning here to talk with MIke. She started her company in September of 2015 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is here today to talk about how to take her business to the next level. She has been a solo cleaner for seven years, and as she’s looking down the road, she doesn’t want to clean forever. But she’s unclear about how to start that hiring process. It can feel scary to start to bring new people into a space that you have curated exactly as you want it. Listen in as she and Mike talk about how to make decisions that will propel you forward to that next step, and how to do it in a really intentional way.

Create a Time Frame

When it comes to hiring, it can be easy to think that you should just hire one person to replace you. If you are one person, logic tells you that you should only need one person to replace you. But if you want to get out of cleaning for good, you have to make allowances for when that person gets sick, needs a family day, has a baby, gets fired, decided to ghost you, etc. To avoid scrambling when they don’t show up, create a system that has people coming to you all the time so you have time to vet them, hire people who align with your core values and will be there in a pinch so that you don’t have to go back to cleaning when something unexpected happens.

Create a Hiring System vs Scambling All the Time

More is Better

Once you set up a hiring funnel, there’s no need to worry about having more people interested than you have work for them to do. If you are looking for two people to hire and six people apply, interview the six and filter out the two who stand out the most. Another option is to keep on on hand as a prn in case none of your employees can show up to work. Setting up a system when you have employees constantly coming in will always be an advantage to you because you will always have quality workers at your disposal.

Final Takeaway:  Don’t be afraid to create a hiring funnel that gives you more employees than you think you need.
